Recruiting and supporting the next generation of Science, Maths and ICT teachers

In August 2008 we were appointed by the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) to deliver and manage the high-profile Transition to Teaching Programme. We work with employers to encourage employees that may be leaving their current employment to consider a career in teaching.

We specifically target graduates with experience in ICT, Mathematics and Science, to address the skill shortage in the STEM subjects. Both employers and programme participants receive constant support throughout the lifecycle of the programme.

We work with employees to help them make their application to study for a teaching qualification, support them throughout their studies and help them with applications for teaching posts. This is combined with online resources and e-learning tools developed by Nord Anglia Education in collaboration with the TDA. In addition to support through their own personal mentors there are a number of events for group work, networking and knowledge sharing.

The programme is going from strength to strength and in the last year over 250 people being supported by the programme gained a teacher training place. We are currently supporting over 1370 people as they explore teaching as a career. Over 1460 employers are now signed up to the programme, including IBM, KPMG, BT, AstraZeneca and GlaxoSmithKline, including over 290 Government and Local Authorities.
